ABOUT ME!
Hello! My name is Emily Merdoc.
I am a nationally certified counselor (NBCC), a former school counselor, and a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC).
As a therapist, I provide comprehensive mental health services through individual sessions, virtual appointments, and specialized adolescent therapy groups.
My practice centers on creating a safe, judgment-free environment where clients can explore their challenges and develop lasting resilience. Drawing from a person-centered approach, I recognize that each individual's journey is unique and requires personalized care. My therapeutic toolkit includes cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, play therapy, solution-focused techniques, trauma-informed care, psychoeducation, and family systems theory.
My academic foundation combines a Bachelor's degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland with a Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from Loyola University of Maryland, where I earned K-12 certification. This blend of family science and early childhood education expertise allows me to deeply understand child development and the crucial role environmental factors play in social-emotional wellness.
Throughout my career, I've successfully supported children, adolescents, and families through various challenges. My experience includes working with clients managing anxiety and emotion regulation, as well as those seeking support for ADHD management and self-esteem building. I have extensive experience helping individuals work through anger management issues and navigate peer relationships. Additionally, I provide guidance for those experiencing family transitions, educational concerns, the impact of addiction on families, and the complex journey of grief and loss.
I believe in building genuine therapeutic relationships founded on empathy and trust. My role is to support you or your loved ones in developing the tools needed for lasting positive change.
